UPSC CAPF 2026 Overview
UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination is the premier direct entry officer selection conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission to induct Group 'A' Gazetted Officers (Assistant Commandants) into India's five premier paramilitary forces: Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
UPSC CAPF 2026 has declared approximately 506 Assistant Commandant vacancies. The selection pathway comprises a single-day Written Examination (Paper 1: General Ability & Intelligence — 250 marks objective; Paper 2: General Studies, Essay & Comprehension — 200 marks descriptive), followed by Physical Standards & Physical Efficiency Tests (PET: 100m sprint, 800m run, Long Jump, Shot Put), Detailed Medical Examination, and Personal Interview / Personality Test (150 marks).
Selected Assistant Commandants lead active battalions and paramilitary companies with direct executive authority over law enforcement, counter-insurgency, anti-terror operations, and border guarding. Officers enter at Pay Level 10 (₹56,100 starting basic pay) with an in-hand monthly salary of ₹80,000–₹1,05,000, augmented by risk & hardship allowances, official vehicles, residential quarters, and fast progression to Deputy Commandant and Commandant ranks.
