UPSC CSE 2026 Overview

UPSC CSE (Civil Services Examination) is India's most prestigious competitive exam, conducted annually to recruit IAS, IPS, IFS, and other Group A & B Central Services officers.

UPSC CSE 2026 has notified 1,056 vacancies including 36 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disability. The exam comprises Prelims (objective), Mains (written), and Personality Test (interview). Approximately 10 lakh candidates appear for Prelims annually.

UPSC CSE Selection Process

Prelims — 2 papers (GS + CSAT), 400 marks total (qualifying CSAT)

Mains — 9 papers (7 merit + 2 qualifying), 1750 marks

Personality Test (Interview) — 275 marks

Final merit = Mains + Interview

Note: Prelims is qualifying — only GS Paper 1 marks determine Prelims cut-off. CSAT requires 33% to qualify. Mains is descriptive.
