UGC NET 2026 अवलोकन
UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is the apex national qualifying examination conducted twice a year (June & December cycles) by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine eligibility of Indian nationals for 'Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor', 'Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.', and 'Admission to Ph.D. only' in Indian universities and colleges.
UGC NET 2026 is conducted across 83 diverse humanities, social science, commerce, management, and language subjects. The single-session examination consists of two papers without any break: Paper 1 (50 objective questions on Teaching Aptitude, Research Methodology, Reading Comprehension, Reasoning, Data Interpretation, and Higher Education System for 100 marks) and Paper 2 (100 in-depth subject-specific questions for 200 marks).
Qualifying UGC NET Assistant Professor certification holds lifetime validity and is mandatory for college lecturerships, while JRF awardees receive a prestigious fellowship stipend of ₹37,000/month (+ HRA) for the first two years and ₹42,000/month as Senior Research Fellow (SRF) during Ph.D. research.
